Style never goes out of fashion

When I worked for a major software company I attended a seminar with some of the product developers. They asserted that Silicon Valley was just a big fashion zone, with the technologists only interested in the latest big thing. Over time I have reviewed that opinion to cover all parts of the IT industry, and it seems that Joey agrees with me. You don't store data in XML, you use it to interchange data between applications. Anyone who has built one knows this, other people may have different opinions.

Everything in its place, and a place for everything is what my mother says, and the same applies to technology. Everything has its proper place and you can use that phrase when someone suggests writing a real time application in VB, or a database management system in PHP. Or a content management system in C++ (oh hang on, thats already been done).
